Vegan and ammonia-free colour: what actually changes
26 July 2026
Vegan does not mean weak, and ammonia-free does not mean technique-free. Diagnosis still matters more than the label.
Many people want colour that is gentler on the hair and on the smell of the service. That concern is fair, but marketing and professional result are not the same thing.
What vegan means
In colour, vegan refers to formulas without animal-derived ingredients. It is a product choice, not an automatic guarantee of any shade without a consultation.
What ammonia-free adds
It often feels more comfortable in smell and sensation, especially for frequent root visits or sensitive scalps.
Grey coverage
Coverage depends on formula, grey percentage, hair thickness and processing time. A well-formulated vegan colour can cover very well, but not every head is the same.
Why we still insist on diagnosis
A swatch does not live alone: it mixes with your base, history and porosity. That is why we adjust each formula before promising a result.
